This past Sunday, Subbuteo action returned in style as the second round of the English Subbuteo Association’s English Championship Circuit 2024-2025 took place in Leicester. Hosted by the Leicester Foxes Subbuteo Club at the Friar & Braunstone Baptist Church in Leicester, the event saw 48 players from across England competing for glory in a thrilling day of table football.
The format featured twelve groups of four players, each containing one seeded competitor. This ensured a balanced yet fiercely competitive start to the day. The players battled it out in a group stage followed by a knockout phase, which culminated in a gripping final between England Veteran International Rudi Peters and returning player Paul Sutton.
In a nail-biting finale, the game was decided in extra time, where Peters clinched victory with a golden goal to seal a 2-1 win and claim the title. Sutton’s impressive performance throughout the tournament showcased his talent and determination, marking a strong return to the circuit.
Meanwhile, the consolation Plate event provided its own dose of excitement. Joe Harrington, known for his lightning-fast flicking style, edged past Ian Walker with a hard-fought 1-0 victory, demonstrating precision and composure under pressure.
The youth final was another highlight of the day, as Ruby Matthews delivered a commanding performance to defeat a determined Jamie Warren by an impressive 5-0 score line in the final. Matthews’ victory showcased her talent in English Subbuteo.
