This past weekend, Subbuteo enthusiasts gathered at the Flitwick Leisure Centre for the Wobbly Hobby UK & Ireland Club League, an event that showcased the finest Subbuteo clubs across the UK. Hosted by Milton Keynes Table Soccer Club and organized by the English Subbuteo Association (ESA), the competition delivered two days of high-intensity play, culminating in a dramatic final where Harrow Hawks triumphed over defending champions Yorkshire Phoenix.

A Weekend of Fierce Competition
The event followed a rigorous two-day format. On Saturday, 21 teams were split into four groups, with the top 16 progressing to the main knockout competition on Sunday. The remaining five teams competed in a consolation event. Matches adhered to FISTF standards, ensuring a professional and competitive atmosphere throughout.
Sunday’s knockout phase was a true test of skill and endurance, with teams battling through placement matches to determine their final rankings. Harrow Hawks, led by captain Victor Jones, emerged victorious, defeating Yorkshire Phoenix in a thrilling final.

Yorkshire Phoenix’s B team, Dewsbury Moor shone in the consolation event, winning all their matches on Sunday to secure the top spot in their group.
Stanway Rovers delivered a solid performance to claim third place, while Wolverhampton and Milton Keynes TSC rounded out the top five.

Yorkshire Phoenix, the 2023 champions. “We certainly gave it our all, finishing runners-up,” said the club. “Congratulations to Harrow Hawks, the new champions. We’ll be back next year stronger than ever.”
Harrow Hawks player Rudi Peterschinigg celebrated the victory with his teammates: "Great weekend flicking the plastic. Alongside Victor, Paul, Neil, and Panos, we managed to become UK & Ireland team champions in a thrilling final.” said Susan Talmer.
Looking Ahead
The Wobbly Hobby League once again highlighted the passion and camaraderie within the Subbuteo community. Clubs are already setting their sights on the 2025 edition, promising more excitement and competition.
