Another Major victory for England’s rising Subbuteo star, Ruby Matthews!

This past weekend, some of the world’s best Subbuteo Table Football players gathered in Mons, Belgium, for one of the most prestigious tournaments of the season, the Major of Frameries 2025. All eyes were on England’s Ruby Matthews, the Under-16 Women’s Youth player, as she set out to add yet another trophy to her growing collection.

Having already made history by claiming the Major of Paris title in 2024, Ruby once again proved why she is one of England’s brightest young talents by securing another Major victory. Her path to glory was anything but easy, but with resilience and skill, she overcame every challenge to lift a Major trophy once more.

Ruby’s Road to Glory

Drawn into Group 2 alongside three strong opponents, Ruby fought hard to progress to the knockout rounds, finishing as group runner-up with two wins from three matches:

  • Ruby Matthews (ENG) 1 – 2 Lorenzo Sani (ITA)

  • Ruby Matthews (ENG) 5 – 0 Fabio Casciano (BEL)

  • Ruby Matthews (ENG) 2 – 1 Maxim Grosdent (BEL)

With a place in the knockout rounds secured, Ruby faced a tough Semi-final clash against France’s Louis Soret. In a closely contested match, she emerged victorious:

  • Ruby Matthews (ENG) 2 – 1 Louis Soret (FRA)

Meanwhile, in the other semi-final, it was her earlier group-stage opponent, Lorenzo Sani, who progressed with a 2-1 win over Belgium’s Konstandinos Tsangouris. This result set up a dramatic rematch in the final, giving Ruby a chance to avenge her only loss of the tournament.

The Final Showdown

With the pressure mounting, Ruby displayed remarkable composure and determination in the final against the in-form Lorenzo Sani. This time, she turned the tables on her Italian rival with a dominant performance, sealing a 3-1 victory to claim her second Major title in as many years.

The English Subbuteo Association extends its heartfelt congratulations to Ruby Matthews on her incredible achievement. Her success on the international stage is a testament to her hard work and dedication, and she continues to be a shining example for young Subbuteo players across England.

Well done, Ruby, we can’t wait to see what the future holds!
