Super Sam play's out of this world to win Leicester Satellite

This past weekend, Saturday 27/01/24 saw up and coming English Subbuteo star, Sam Curtis win the Leicester FISTF Satellite event.



Players from across the UK travelled to Leicester for the first FISTF Satellite event to be held in England for some years. A strong field of 48 players were drawn into twelve groups with each group having four players in each, which included a seeded player from January's FISTF ranking system (please note players within the top 100 in the FISTF rankings were not able to play in this event) Below you can see who the seeds were.



The days play flicked off with some great group games featuring some interesting results, including a 1-0 win for Paul Andreas over Ruby Matthews, Young Max Pereira holding Colin Tarry to a 2-2 draw and a thrilling 4-3 victory for Shaun Dunne over Simon Goodman. Below are the final group tables.




At this point, players finishing in first place with the highest points total qualified automatically into the main event, and the remaining first and second placed players competed in the Barrage round for the remaining spots in the last sixteen. See Bellow



The Round of 16 saw some tight games with Rudi Peters edging out Justin Scott 2-1 after extra time and Richard Badger narrowly losing to Sam Curtis by 3-2.



The Quarter Final matches were hotly contested with number one seed Mick Hammonds beating an in form Ian Aggett 1-0 and Chris Bedford winning by 3-2 against Paul Andreas in an intense game, but the game of the round. live on Facebook was Sam Curtis vs Bob Varney, which saw Bob's wave after wave of attacking brilliance rebuffed by Sam who finally broke away in the dying stages of extra time to find his way into the shooting area to strike the ball across Bobs keeper to win the game 1-0 with the golden goal. here is the link to that game https://www.facebook.com/simon.bodily.5/videos/793051909323855?idorvanity=239943602816912



The Semi Finals were two very tight games with Mick Hammonds and Sam Curtis winning very narrowly against there two tough opponents, Rudi Peters who lost 2-1 to Mick in extra time and Chris Bedford who lost by 1-0 to Sam in normal time.



The Final game saw Mick Hammonds vs Sam Curtis with Mick seeing lots of the ball in the opening exchanges, where he found Sam's keeper in fine form. The game continued to see Mick have the better of the chances with numerus ones that he couldn't take, but it was Sam who countered and broke into the shooting area hitting a fierce shot passed Mick's keeper to go 1-0 up and with only a short time left, win the game.
