The English Championships made a much anticipated returned to the English circuit last Sunday. The six round Championships will travel around the country over the next six months seeing events in the North, the Midlands and the South of England.
Round 1, which was superbly organised and hosted by Stanway Rovers Flickers Subbuteo Club, was an overwhelming success with 43 players competing, including 12 players from England’s 2022 World Cup squad.
The Championships, which runs to a Swiss format, saw players and clubs from all over the UK and Ireland, including this years UK and Ireland Club Champions, Wolverhampton Table Football Club.
The event was won by England star Chris Thomas, after winning all 5 of his games, including a 1-0 win against England’s number 1, Elliott Bellefontaine. Richard Badger took 2nd place, beating his Wolverhampton team mate, Justin Scott 5-2 along the way. And, a massive well done to England’s Alex Scott, for winning the Under 20 title.
Round 2 of the Championships, will be held at Accrington Stanley FC, on 26th February, full details can be found on the ESA website.
