FISTF World Cup 2024 gains title sponsor in Eland Cables in build up to ‘coming home’

Eland Cables, one of Europe’s fastest growing electrical cable suppliers to critical infrastructure, will sponsor the 2024 FISTF (Federation of International Sports Table Football) Subbuteo World Cup, to be held in Royal Tunbridge Wells on 20-22 September.This global event was last staged in the UK in 2012, in Manchester - more than a decade later the table sport that originated in Royal Tunbridge Wells is heading back to its birthplace and ancestral home.Players from 32 countries will compete through group stages into knock-out rounds, to find the winners in youth and senior categories in both Individual and Team events.

A game of nostalgia with intergenerational benefits

Aside from nostalgia, the communities we work with will resonate with the desire to encourage young people away from digital devices, and this great inter-generational game of skill and fun is a way of bringing people together.

World Cup Sponsor Royal Victoria Place

"ITS COMING HOME" SUBBUTEO EVENTS AT ROYAL VICTORIA PLACE

We are thrilled to announce that Royal Victoria Place has partnered with The English Subbuteo Association to hold the Subbuteo Old School World Cup Individual Event, the Subbuteo World Cup Fun Day and The Subbuteo Old School World Cup Team Events at the shopping centre from Friday 20th September to Sunday 22nd September 2024.

The three events will be located on the Upper Mall and will be free for all to see and for the general public to participate in on Saturday 21st.

Nicky Blanchard, Centre Manager at Royal Victoria Place, said: “We are delighted to be able to host these fabulous events, most especially as the game was invented by a local resident, Peter Adolph approximately 76 years ago. We very much hope that our visitors will enjoy this unusual opportunity.”

The ESA Chairman Alan Lee said: ”We are so incredibly grateful to RVP for hosting our global event. Players from all over the world will join the people of Tunbridge Wells to experience this very special celebration of Subbuteo. There will be fun events for people of all ages to get involved with, as we go on a journey of rediscovery of the town’s heritage”.
